Barack Obama Green Charter Schools Recognized for “Stepping

up to Mental Health” Project

Union County, NJ — October 24th, 2024, the Union County Commissioner Board proudly

announced that Barack Obama Green Charter High School has won this year’s UC STEP

Civic Engagement Project Challenge with their inspiring initiative, Stepping Up to Mental Health. This student-led project aims to increase awareness around mental health, addressing a critical need for mental health resources.

Congratulations to Dr. Yasmin Griffin, Mrs. Irene Estevez, Laila Slater-Halsey, Jered Lawrence, and Alyssa Solivan for their dedication and hard work in bringing this project to life!

The UC STEP was established in 2013 in order to offer young people an opportunity to engage in meaningful service projects that improve the quality of life in Union County. The next UC STEP event is scheduled to take place on December 17th at Kean University, where students will be able to continue contributing to community-building efforts. Union County encourages students to register to attend.
